One of the most significant consequences of the current U.S. economic crisis, according to Reihan Salam, a fellow at the New America Foundation, will be the loss of power by men and the subsequent increase in power held by women.

In his Foreign Policy magazine article, “The Death of Macho,” Salam writes, “The axis of global conflict in this century will not be warring ideologies, or competing geopolitics, or clashing civilizations. It won’t be race or ethnicity. It will be gender.”

In Atlanta, a few women – notably IBM’s Ann Cramer and The Coca-Cola Co.’s Ingrid Saunders Jones -- have long been recognized as power brokers in business. But others are quickly gaining ground and will soon join the ranks of women in positions of power.

Womenetics has identified four new power women to watch in Georgia:

Cheryl A. Bachelder

Cheryl A. Bachelder has served as director of AFC Enterprises since 2006.

Prior to joining AFC Enterprises, Bachelder was the president and chief concept officer for KFC Corp. in Louisville, Ky She had full profit and loss accountability for U.S. restaurant operations and implemented new menu boards, a new value campaign, and installed operations scorecards in the restaurants to improve customer satisfaction.

Bachelder also was vice president, marketing and product development for Domino's Pizza Inc., where she was the brand architect responsible for contemporizing the restaurant chain. During that time, the chain saw same-store sales growth for five years across 5,400 units.

Prior to her restaurant experience, Bachelder served as general manager of the LifeSavers Division of RJR Nabisco. Her early career included brand management roles at The Gillette Co. and The Procter & Gamble Co.

She is a member of the Procter & Gamble APFI advisory board and is on the board of directors of True Value Corp. She recently was appointed to the board of directors for the National Restaurant Association.
